Here we focus on three dimensions of the historical Chinese presence in Havana. First is an overall view of the historical documents found in the Biblioteca Nacional JosÚ MartÝ, located in Havana. These documents provide evidence of the early transactions between Chinese immigrants and the Cuban farmers who contracted them to work in the fields. Next, we look at other documentation in the National Library which illustrates historical Chinese culture through both journalism and literature. The Chinese immigrants took photographs to preserve memories of important occasions. They displayed these photos on the walls of rooms where the Chinese societies had their meetings. Other photos also presented here belong to the Archives of the National Library JosÚ MartÝ.
